10 Animals Most at Risk in Oil Spill
The North Atlantic Bluefin Tuna is already dangerously close to extinction thanks to its status as a sought-after sushi fish. It spawns in the Gulf from Mid-April to Mid-June.   (Keith Ellenbogen/Oceana)

Biologists are panicking over the oil spill spreading across the Gulf of Mexico, which couldn't possibly have come at a worse time. It's peak spawning and nesting season in the wetlands, estuaries, and national fisheries of Louisiana, and there's never been an oil spill this close to those fragile areas, writes Julia Kumari Drapkin at GlobalPost. Many of the species currently breeding there are already endangered or at risk. See the slideshow for some of the critters in the most trouble. Drapkin's full list is here.
