Robots and technicians have successfully placed a containment dome on the floor of the Gulf of Mexico, 5,000 feet below the surface. BP teams are now attempting to fit the dome, which they started maneuvering last night, over the Deepwater Horizon well that has been gushing 5,000 barrels oil daily since April 20. There is no guarantee that the dome will successfully contain the spill at this depth, CNN reports.

"It works in 3 to 400 feet of water. But the pressures and temperatures are very different here," BP's CEO said. "So we cannot be confident that it will work."
