The uproar following newly minted politician Rand Paul's hedge on civil rights and his comment that businesses should be allowed to ban blacks has been deemed "unfair" by his furious pop. The attacks are "contrived because he has done so well," said Ron Paul. "I think it's overkill. It's just not fair." The young Paul waffled on supporting the federal civil rights act during questioning by Rachel Maddow following his win as the GOP candidate for the Kentucky Senate seat.
He released a statement yesterday saying he would not support a hypothetical effort to repeal the civil rights law, and blamed the "loony left" for distorting his views. Paul senior claims his boy is being baited by those with a political agenda who are asking questions that have nothing to do with the campaign, reports Politico. He's convinced the statements won't hurt him with Kentucky voters. "I don't think he has anything to recover from," the elder Paul said. "Get out there and talk to the people."
