Politics | Gulf oil spill Most Think Obama Doing a Lousy Job on Oil Spill 53% bash him; BP's numbers are worse By John Johnson Posted May 26, 2010 6:33 PM CDT Copied In this May 2 file photo, President Obama walks with Louisiana Gov. (AP Photo/Charles Dharapak, File) No big surprise with these poll numbers: The public is paying close attention to the Gulf oil spill and thinks pretty much everyone involved is doing lousy work, including President Obama. Highlights from the USA Today/Gallup poll: About 75% say BP is doing a "poor" or "very poor" job. 53% say the same of Obama, and 60% say it of the federal government. Most say protection of the environment should be a priority, "even at the risk of limiting energy supplies." The 55%-39% split marks a reversal from March, when the numbers were 50%-43% the other way. Most, however, still favor offshore drilling: 52% vs. 44%. More than two-thirds say BP should be in charge of the cleanup, not the US. Read These Next New Fox star, 23, misses first day after car troubles.
