BP Makes 12 Spillcams Public

BP might be facing criticism for hiding the environmental damage caused by the Gulf spill, but it's now tougher to hide anything in the repair effort—the company has made all 12 live video feeds at the ruptured well available to the public. A perusal of the Spillcam website shows machinery in the murky depths, robots attempting to perform repairs, and—of course—a constant stream of oil coming from the ruptured well, the Christian Science Monitor reports.

All 12 feeds were working previously, but viewers got to see only one a time. The disclosure comes at the request of Rep. Edward Markey, who praised BP: "These dozen views of the spill will finally provide the American public and independent observers the unfettered access needed to assess both the progress and destruction happening a mile below the Gulf."
