Buckle Up for the Biggest Pre-November Election

Voters will weigh in on a host of fascinating primary races today, in the biggest day of voting we’ll get before the November midterms. Politico breaks down the most interesting races to watch:

• Arkansas: Blanche Lincoln could very well lose to Lt. Gov. Bill Halter, sending a message to moderate Democratic candidates everywhere: Don’t mess with the Left.

• South Carolina: Polls show Nikki Haley overcoming those sex scandal rumors to win the GOP nomination, putting her in a commanding position to become the state’s first female governor—and the GOP’s second Indian-American governor in the South.
• Nevada: Republicans are hoping their own incumbent governor loses the primary because he’s polling so badly; Gov. Jim Gibbons' GOP challenger, Brian Sandoval, is faring better against likely Democratic nominee Rory Reid in the polls.
• California: Time to see if the massive amount of money Meg Whitman poured into her gubernatorial race will even win her the GOP nomination. Meanwhile, Carly Fiorina seems primed to win the chance to take on Sen. Barbara Boxer.
• Iowa: The GOP gubernatorial contest here could have 2012 primary implications; all the major candidates are backing a horse in the race.
