Vic Rawl is crying foul over his defeat by total unknown Alvin Greene in the South Carolina Democratic primary for the US Senate. Rawl, a former judge and state lawmaker, has filed a formal protest with the state's Democratic Party over what he calls the "strange circumstances" surrounding his loss to Greene, an unemployed Army veteran, AP reports.
Rawl, who received 41% of the vote to Greene's 59%, says he suspects his loss was the result of either faulty voting machines or malfunctioning software. He says several people have told him they pressed his name on the touch-screen ballot, only to see Greene's name apppear. "I sat on the bench for 12 years and I have a pretty good nose," Rawl tells the Charleston Post-Courier. "This does not smell right." (More Alvin Greene stories.)
