Alvin Greene seems to be having trouble starting his campaign. Time got a look at the unlikely candidate’s “headquarters”—which is to say, his 81-year-old dad’s house—and discovered that Greene doesn’t have a computer, a cell phone, or staff, let alone any campaign plans. He says he’s waiting for the state party to give him funds, which it assures Time it will not do. When Time requested the interview, his first question was, “Does the candidate get paid?”
But Greene does have a message. He says he’s building his campaign around three issues: jobs, education, and “justice in the judicial system.” Asked how he won the primary without doing anything, he replies, “I am the best candidate for the United States Senate in South Carolina,” he says, “and I am also the best person to be Time magazine’s Man of the Year.” (More Alvin Greene stories.)
