European soccer's governing body UEFA and the players' union FIFPro signed an agreement Thursday covering areas such as contract transfers and players' rights of employment.  The deal should prevent another Bosman ruling, the landmark 1995 decision in which the European Court of Justice gave athletes more freedom to change clubs. 

FIFPro secretary-general Theo van Seggelen said, "We are confident that this agreement will lead to us sorting out any problems ourselves. If there is arbitration to be done, it will be based on this deal." Both parties also said that the world soccer regulator FIFA and its president, Sepp Blatter, wouldn't succeed in a campaign to get European pro clubs to reduce the number of foreigners on their squads.
