In the wake of the controversy surrounding a secret email newsletter, Texas A&M has fired football coach Dennis Franchione's personal assistant, who was responsible for writing the emails, and has shut down the coaches personal website, reports the Dallas Morning News. The newsletter was intended for A&M boosters, who paid the coach a $1,200 subscription fee.

"I was trying to keep some loyal Aggies fans informed on our program in greater detail throughout the year with the e-mails. Please do not blame them," Franchione said during yesterday's press conference.  Asked about Franchione's job security, Athletic Director Bill Byrne responded "Right now, Fran is our football coach and we've got to beat Texas Tech."
