Nobel sparks new round of speculation that Gore will take to the campaign trail

Al Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize will increase calls for the Oscar winner to run for president. The Politico says the laureate’s likely to stay out of the race—after this, a political campaign would be an awful downer, the Washington Post notes—but not until he’s drawn out speculation first. And the most prestigious award in the world will make Gore's endorsement, which was deeply discounted in 2004, much more valuable.

Expect all the Democratic candidates to fawn; Hillary Clinton ran a “CONGRATULATIONS!” banner on her campaign homepage, and pundits envision the ex-first lady making the ex-veep an environmental ambassador if he's not, indeed, a competitor. But the Draft Gore folks won't give up without a fight: "Under these circumstances," their site said today, "he has no choice but to take the one step left to have the greatest impact in changing policy on global warming—run for president."
