Dennis Hopper reflects on his career, and his sometimes turbulent life, in what ended up being his last interview. “I’ve been in such incredible movies,” he tells Vanity Fair. While he names Blue Velvet as his greatest acting achievement, he says Easy Rider is the high point of his entire career: “Easy Rider and The Last Movie were the only films that I made totally on my own.” More:
- 2000 election: He voted for George W. Bush because “I looked at the two of them and said, ‘Who would I rather have on my side in a fight?’ Bush. That’s a true story.”
- Even so…: “I like Clinton, I like Obama. I hate what’s happening to the country. I think we’re in the worst shape I’ve ever seen. Just think how conservative this country has become. It’s like the ‘60s never happened.”
- On divorce: “Who would have ever thought I’d be getting a divorce in this state? It was a big shock,” he says of his drama-ridden split with Victoria Duffy.
