The U.S. 800-meter freestyle relay team of Michael Phelps, Klete Keller, Ryan Lochte and Peter Vanderkaay won gold and set a world record Friday night. The team's time of 7:03.24 is 1.42 seconds better than the previous mark, set by Australia in 2001 at the world championships
It was the fifth gold for Phelps and the second world record for Lochte, who earlier won gold and earned his own world record in the 200-meter backstroke. The victories in the 200-meter backstroke and 800-meter freestyle medley give the United States 26 medals total, the most of any country competing. (More Ryan Lochte stories.)
