Fans Lament Fall of the Barefoot Bandit

US and Bahamas law enforcement may be thrilled that Colton Harris-Moore's two-year crime spree has ended in capture, but more than 85,000 online fans of the Barefoot Bandit are still rooting for him. "Stick it to the man," one fan wrote on a Facebook page devoted to Harris-Moore. "He made them all look like a fool," another wrote on a fan page.

Many fans have written that they are sad about not being able to live vicariously through the Barefoot Bandit anymore since his capture. Like Robin Hood, Jesse James, and John Dillinger, Harris-Moore attracted cult status by foiling those with money and power, the Christian Science Monitor reports. “People are just fascinated by those who can commit crimes and outsmart the cops,” says a reporter who is writing a book about Harris-Moore.
