Fidel Castro is back, and looking pretty spry for an 83-year-old. A relaxed, healthy-looking Castro appeared for an extended hour and 15-minute conversation on Cuba’s Mesa Redonda (“Round Table”) nightly talk show yesterday. He spent much of the time reading essays by other people, or having his own read back to him, the AP reports. But, because he’s still Castro, he managed to get in some attacks on the US.

Castro accused the US of orchestrating the sinking of a South Korean warship in a bid to start a new Korean war, and of preparing to attack Iran. “I believe that the danger of war is tremendous. They are playing with fire,” he said, according to al-Jazeera (see video). In Cuba, the people the AP talked to seemed happy to see Fidel again. “It will give hope that once again he will help to solve our problems,” said one 21-year-old. (More Fidel Castro stories.)
