Sims Designer Named BAFTA Fellow

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has awarded a fellowship to video game designer Will Wright, creator of The Sims, the best-selling computer game franchise in history. The award has been interpreted as a nod to the growing creativity of computer and video games. Previous recipients include Charlie Chaplin, Steven Spielberg and Alfred Hitchcock.

Wright was cited by BAFTA for his “immense, creative body of work and his continued contribution to the industry” according to PC World. Wright’s first game was Raid on Bungeling Bay, in 1984, but he made his name with the series of Sim- games, starting with SimCity in 1989 and culminating in The Sims franchise today.
