Linda McMahon easily won the GOP nomination tonight to run for Senate in Connecticut. The former World Wrestling Entertainment exec bested two rivals—including former congressman (and onetime favorite) Rob Simmons—and will face Democrat Richard Blumenthal in the fall to succeed the retiring Chris Dodd. McMahon will be the underdog, but she's vowed to spend $50 million of her own money.

Elsewhere:

  • In Colorado, Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet proved that incumbents can win after all. Bennet, backed by President Obama, survived an anti-establishment primary challenge from Andrew Romanoff, who was backed by Bill Clinton.
  • In Georgia, Nathan Deal (backed by Gingrich and Huckabee) held a razor-thin lead over Karen Handel (backed by Palin and Romney) in the brutal GOP gubernatorial runoff. With nearly all results in, less than 1% separates them.
