A New Zealand teen beauty queen was stripped of her title for the unimaginable offense of...dyeing her hair brown. Olivia O'Neil, whose hair had "white-blonde streaks" when she won the pageant, posted a picture on Facebook of her new darker 'do. Pageant organizer Barbara Osborne posted several comments, including "Please tell me that's a wig," reports the Wanganui Chronicle. When O'Neil said it wasn't—and added that if her hair wasn't "pageant-worthy," maybe pageants weren't for her—Osborne asked her to step down.
"Well you better decide, miss. Hand over your crown with an attitude like that. I'm sure someone will step into your place with manners," were her exact words, but a pageant spokesperson confirms to the New Zealand Herald that O'Neil's hair was the problem, as she was expected to "maintain the image she had when she won." O'Neil says Osborne, who is no longer involved with the pageant, was "always really harsh on the girls," saying things like, "Wear lots of makeup" and "Do 20 sit-ups."
