Tyra Banks apologized for a controversial America's Next Top Model promo in which she appeared to gush over a super-skinny model, but says she wants to expand "the definition of beauty—EVERY kind of beauty"—including the extremely tall, thin kind. The model in the promo "was experiencing her own internal struggles with her body, and the cruelty she faces on a daily basis directly related to the way she looks," Banks explains on her website, adding that an upcoming episode will deal with "beauty, body image, and bullying."

Even so, "the overarching message of the show" is "to accept and celebrate all types of beauty," and the promo in question "misconstrued" that message. The message that was conveyed in the video "is certainly not Top Model- or Tyra-approved," she writes, adding that she did not see the promo before it was released, and it is no longer airing. "The jokes of my fellow judges connected with my edited soundbite sounded like I was supporting unhealthy eating habits. This has never and will NEVER be the case."
