Israel only has three days to launch a military strike on Iran’s nuclear reactor before it contains live fuel, and it should probably take the shot, former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton told Israeli radio today. Russia has announced that it will begin installing fuel rods in Iran’s Bushehr nuclear reactor on Friday, the Jerusalem Post reports. When that happens, Bolton reasons, it’ll be too dangerous to attack the site.
“It has always been optimal that military force is used before the fuel rods are inserted,” Bolton said, noting that Israel had launched similar attacks in the past. He said he’d seen no indication that Israel was planning such an attack now. “Obviously, if Israel were going to do something, it wouldn’t exactly be advertising it,” he added. “But time is short.” For more on the likelihood of an Israeli attack within the year, click here.
