Coming soon to a cab near you: Anti-Islamic ads that suggest it's dangerous for women to leave the religion. They've been showing up on taxis in Chicago this summer, part of a movement called Stop the Islamization of America, reports the Chicago Tribune. Leader Pamela Geller—she's emerged as one of the most outspoken opponents of the mosque near Ground Zero on her Atlas Shrugs website—said the ads are the first in a nationwide campaign about so-called honor killings.
"The ad is not directed at Muslims," she insists. "In this particular case, it's directed at Muslim girls in trouble, living in fear of their lives, struggling to find resources to help." Critics aren't buying it. "People like Pam Geller have a horrendous record," a Georgetown professor tells the Tribune. "It's a track record of not distinguishing between forms of religious terrorism and Islam itself." Also not happy: cab drivers themselves, about half of whom are Muslim. (More Pamela Geller stories.)
