Dilbert creator Scott Adams and his wife have built "what is arguably the greenest home for miles around," he writes. If you'd like to follow suit, he has four words of advice: "Good luck with that." In a Wall Street Journal essay, Adams describes in entertaining detail the trials and tribulations of everything from photovoltaic systems ("waste of money"), to backward-spinning energy meters (still a distant dream) to house fans in the attic (great in theory, but his is a bit too loud to actually use).
"Kidding aside, I do love the Earth, damn it. And if my only contribution to its well-being is joining the early adopters (OK, idiots) so that those who follow have better information and lower costs for green building, I'm OK with that," he writes. (And because it's simply too hard to resist, click here to read about how Adams loves to read Newser when he's not tied up saving the Earth.)
