8 Still Missing After Wildfire in Colorado

Eight people remain missing after a wildfire destroyed at least 54 homes in an area west of Boulder, Colorado. Officials said the fire has probably claimed more homes, as the 54 tally came from a survey of only 5% to 10% of the affected area, reports CNN. "That is the only area that could be safely surveyed," said the Boulder County sheriff's office.

Gov. Bill Ritter said Colorado was spending $5 million to combat the blaze and urged evacuees to be patient: "This is a very volatile situation, it would be fair to say," the governor said. "There is a fire line. They are doing all they can to contain the fire line. At the same time, there are a fair number of embers that are also starting smaller fires." About 6,000 acres are burning.
