Stephen Colbert celebrated the nominal end of the Iraq war last night in front of an audience full of military personnel. Determined to give them all the comforts of home, Colbert lined the rows with grass, served them beer, and wheeled out a hot dog cart manned by none other than Joe Biden. When Colbert feigned surprise at Biden’s appearance, the vice president replied, “Read your Constitution, man. I’ve got two constitutional duties,” and one of them is “giving hot dogs to returning warriors.”

But Biden’s presence didn’t stop Colbert from mocking the administration’s assertion that the war was over. Showing images of the non-combat troops in Iraq, and the combat troops in Afghanistan, Colbert joked, “If you can tell the difference, you’re the president of the United States.” See the video in the gallery or on the show's website.
