Read enough comments from Sarah Palin's supporters, and you're bound to come across some that compare her to the biblical figure of Esther, writes Michael Joseph Gross in Vanity Fair. Palin herself takes the analogy seriously, and suggests "her rise to power is divinely ordained." Today, Gross prints an email she received from right-wing pastor Lou Engle just before her debate with Joe Biden. (Aides passed it on to her as "urgent.")
"I know you’ve heard it, but I believe this is an Esther moment in your life," it reads. "Esther hid her identity until Mordecai challenged her to risk everything for such a time as this. ... I could be wrong, but I’ve been praying for five years for an Esther, with dreams of being a Mordecai to that Esther. I believe you’re the one." He also offers debate advice and refers to abortion as a "holocaust." Gross explains Esther's story in more detail in the full article. For more news on Palin, click here. (More Sarah Palin stories.)
