Ninety-two years after the end of combat, World War I comes to an end of sorts tomorrow when Germany pays off the final installment of its war reparations. The payment of about $94 million in interest on foreign bonds will complete Germany's obligations under the Treaty of Versailles, reports Der Spiegel.

"On Sunday the last bill is due and the First World War finally, financially at least, terminates for Germany," declares the newspaper Bild. The penalties insisted upon by the Allies in the Versailles treaty brought financial misery to Germany, a sentiment that Adolf Hitler exploited to gain power. He vowed to "tear up this treaty."
