In typical wet London weather, the NFL put on an equally typical slugfest in its first-ever regular season game played outside North America, with hapless Miami putting up a fight against New York before plummeting to its eighth straight loss. Over 80,000 spectators were mostly enthused by the sloppy play, especially the seven fumbles (three lost) and deep incompletions that characterized the game.

The quarterbacks combined to go an unproficient 25 for 52, with the winner, Eli Manning, completing just eight passes for only 59 yards. A halftime streaker was allowed to run riot by the players; one Giant explained, “I don’t think an NFL player tackling a half-naked guy is a good look." (More NFL stories.)
