New poll shows after vote they support legalizing marijuana 49%-41%

All the stoners out there tremendously disappointed in California's failure to make pot legal can relax. Californians generally do support legalizing marijuana, but a number of them may have simply been too stoned to make it to the polls. If young voters had turned out as heavily this week as they do for presidential elections, Proposition 19 might have passed. If the issue "goes on the ballot in 2012, it's poised to win," said Anna Greenberg of the Greenberg Quinlan Rosner polling firm. Her company found in a post-election survey that California voters back legalization 49% to 41%, with 10% uncertain, reports the Los Angeles Times.

“The question about legalizing marijuana is no longer when, it’s no longer whether, it’s how,” said Ethan Nadelmann, the executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance. “There’s a really strong body of people who will be ready to pull the lever in the future.” Provided they can get off the couch.
