McCain: I'm Cool With Cindy's Ad

John McCain's just fine with wife Cindy's stance (or revised stance?) on Don't Ask, Don't Tell, telling Meet the Press that "I respect the First Amendment rights of every member of my family." The missus McCain backtracked on her appearance in an ad calling for the repeal of DADT, later tweeting, "I stand by my husband's stance on DADT." Which the Arizona senator clarified as, "a complete and thorough study and review of the effects on battle readiness and morale.” Elsewhere on the Sunday dial:

• Blue Dog Heath Shuler thinks Nancy Pelosi's quest for House minority leader is "unacceptable," and says he'll mount a challenge if she runs, though he acknowledges it's a symbolic candidacy: "I don't have the numbers to win."
• Which is bunk, says newly coined "assistant leader" Jim Clyburn, because Pelosi "led us out of the wilderness" four years ago.
• The skirmish over the Bush tax cuts continues, with Chuck Schumer calling for a compromise eliminating them for only those who made $1 million or more. Mark Warner, meanwhile, has floated a proposal extending cuts to some high-earners and investing savings in small-business tax cuts.
• Count Jim DeMint not in Michael Steele's corner: “I’m looking for some alternatives right now," he said of the embattled RNC chair, blaming Steele for an underwhelming ground game in this past election.
