Mike Pence in 2012? Conservatives Love It

George Will gives a glowing recap today of Mike Pence's conservative bona fides and suggests the Indiana congressman would make a fine candidate for the Oval Office in 2012. Throughout his six terms, Pence has opposed big-government initiatives such as TARP and the stimulus bill and all manners of "unfunded entitlements," writes Will in the Washington Post. He's a conservative's conservative on social issues, too.

"With the fluency of a former talk radio host, he says, 'You would not be able to print enough money in a thousand years to pay for the government you would need if the traditional family continues to collapse,'" writes Will. It's no wonder, he concludes, that "many Tea Partyers and social conservatives—essentially distinct cohorts—are urging Pence to run for president, and why, although he probably won't, he might."
