Henry Kissinger Is a 'Vile Creature': Christopher Hitchens

Ever since Watergate, Henry Kissinger has deserved to be “shamed, ostracized, and excluded”—yet, for some reason, people still pay him to speak and have “dinners in his honor,” complains Christopher Hitchens on Slate. Well, the new Nixon tapes should finally change that: quotes reveal that Kissinger would “be indifferent to a replay of Auschwitz.” Yet American Jewish leaders have been silent. "Where is the outrage?” wonders Hitchens.

The comment is “like advance permission for another Holocaust.” Kissinger is “that rare and foul beast, a man whose record shows sympathy for communism and fascism.” Will people finally shun the elder statesman? Or will he “keep his op-ed perch” and dodge scrutiny? This time, “let this character at last be treated like the reeking piece of ordure that he is,” Hitchens writes. More on the Nixon tapes is here.
