Things may be tough for President Obama at the moment, but don’t rule him out: he’s poised to win in 2012, an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds. Though his approval rating is at its lowest, he would still beat Sarah Palin or Mitt Romney—and three-quarters of Americans like him on a personal level. And his numbers have hardly changed in the past year, despite big Republican victories.

Obama beats Palin by 22 points in the survey, 55% to 33%. He surpasses former Massachusetts governor Romney by 47% to 40%. And compared to a generic GOP opponent, he wins 42% to 39%; another 10% say it depends on the Republican candidate. Don’t consider him as “battered and bruised” as Rocky Balboa; he’s more like an “exhausted” Lance Armstrong, says a Democratic pollster, who conducted the survey with a Republican counterpart.
