Passengers Brawl as Storms Paralyze Russia's Airports

Furious Moscow airport passengers scuffled with employees and hundreds tried to rush a passport barrier at Sheremetyevo to board planes as weather continued to paralyze travel. Russian President Medvedev is calling for prosecutors to investigate what is being called the worst meltdown in Russian air travel in 15 years after ice storms shut down the country's two biggest airports. Some 20,000 passengers faced delays of up to two days, made worse by power outages and sewage smells, reports USA Today.

Lack of deicing fluid and emergency generators were blamed for many of the delays during the busiest travel time of the year in Russia, and the officials apologized for the problems. "For this big of a collapse, we cannot blame only the weather," said the head of a Russian tourism organization. The Wall Street Journal has more details.
