The Washington Capitals scored early and late, but the Philadelphia Flyers prevailed to take their first win against the Capitals since February, 2006. Mike Richards lit a fire under his team with his first fight of the year, getting bloodied by Brooks Laich before picking up his eighth goal in 12 games, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Richards, who needs just three more goals to tie his season record, admitted of the fight that "sometimes you look for a spark to pick the team up." The Flyers certainly needed a push after a first period with no puck possessions. Daniel Briere was the first to react to Richards's spark, followed by Richards himself and RJ Umberger in the third.
