Hugh Hefner would like you to know that he does not hand out Quaaludes, let his dog poop all over the carpets of the Playboy mansion, or refuse to wear condoms. Er, well, actually, that part about not wearing condoms might be true. But most of the dirt dished by his ex-girlfriend—and ex-Mansion-resident—Izabella St. James is "self-serving semi-fiction," Hef tells the Daily Beast. St. James’s book was actually published in 2006, but got a lot of attention via London’s Daily Mail recently thanks to Hef’s impending nuptials.
Hef explains that St. James was kicked out of the mansion, and wrote the book after that "for clear and obvious purposes." But some of her charges are true—he did pay his girlfriends $1,000 a week in cash, for clothes; he did give them a 9pm curfew "so they wouldn’t be running around on me"; and when it comes to that claim about him refusing to wear condoms, all he’ll say is, "one of the ways that you resolve that problem is to have sex with people who don’t have sexually transmitted diseases."
