The New York Post gave political bloggers plenty to buzz about today with its Page Six item asserting that Rudy Giuliani is getting ready to run for president again. At Salon, Steve Kornacki isn't biting. It's "understandable" Giuliani would want to run given the wide-open GOP field, he writes—and it's a little curious that the former mayor went on Morning Joe today and took a shot at potential rival Chris Christie—but "here's guessing he won't be back for more punishment in two years."
The thing about that wide-open field is that it was similarly wide open when Giuliani entered the presidential fray in 2007, and look how that turned out for him. "He failed—miserably." GOP voters liked him but didn't consider him presidential material, and he's done nothing in the intervening years to change that. "If anything, he's in a worse position as '12 approaches, with memories of his 9/11 leadership fading," writes Kornacki. Click for the full column.
