If you want to keep up with developments in Egypt, forget the US cable networks and go to al-Jazeera's online coverage here instead, writes Alex Pareene at Salon. About the best that can be said of coverage on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox is that they're doing a better job covering Egypt than they did Tunisia, he writes. "But none of them are reporting on the situation as compellingly as al-Jazeera English, which has reporters across the country."

The US outlets are airing footage, but nothing that competes with al-Jazeera's live feed. (Assuming the government doesn't shut it down at some point.) Al-Jazeera is interviewing people actually at the scene, as opposed to the talking heads in US studios. "Their English-language network is, today, mandatory viewing for anyone interested in the world-changing events currently happening in Egypt," he writes. "The American networks barely qualify as an interesting supplement." Click to read Pareene's entire piece.
