Boehner: 'We're Broke'

Uncle Sam's wallet is so empty, it's enough to make John Boehner cry: "We’re broke," he told Meet the Press today. "What’s really dangerous is if we do nothing...We’re going to deal with the entitlement problem." Furthermore, with Tea Partiers in the mix, "there’s no limit to the amount of money that our members want to cut." Elsewhere on the Sunday dial, courtesy of Politico:

• Boehner grudgingly praised President Obama for handling the Egyptian crisis "about as well as it could be handled," though Boehner called for a "reassessment of why didn't we have a better feel for this."
• John McCain predicts a good, old-fashioned brawl over Obama's budget, but a "different environment" since the election gives him "hope for guarded optimism." McCain cautioned new congressmen against getting too happy with defense cuts.
• Rep. Paul Ryan went on the offense, saying GOP budget cuts were vital: "No matter how popular sounding these programs are, they jeopardize our children’s future." Furthermore, the stimulus threw "so much money at these bureaucracies that they can’t even spend all the money."
