Nir Rosen, the journalist who tweeted more than one tasteless line about Lara Logan's assault faced Anderson Cooper last night, attempting to explain what he’d been thinking—which was basically that he wasn't thinking at all. "I don’t have an explanation. I was a jerk," Rosen told Cooper. He said he hadn’t known the attack was sexual when he made the comments; Cooper wondered how that was possible, given a CBS News link Rosen tweeted.

The article referred to a sexual assault, Mediaite notes. “I should have read it,” Rosen said. "I just heard the word assault." Cooper also referred to Rosen’s comment that Logan "was trying to outdo Anderson"—who was punched—suggesting that Rosen knew Logan had faced a more severe attack. Rosen said he’d been in the Middle East and hadn’t had "much access to information." "I just assumed that you were roughed up and she was roughed up a bit more." (More Anderson Cooper stories.)
