Police are investigating an annual nude bash by a private Yale student club that ended with several students in a local hospital following a suspected sexual assault. Yale police officials alerted the student body in an email that a “possible sexual assault involving Yale undergraduates occurred at an off campus party," reports the Yale Daily News. A university official confirmed that police have launched an investigation. Some 50 students attended the invitation-only party hosted by the Pundits, Yale's senior prank society. Students arrived in costume but were all later ordered to disrobe
The party was part of the Pundits' "tap" process in which individuals try to impress club members to win a tap on the shoulder to join the club. Some attending the party accused the Pundits of forcing heavy drinking by creating an atmosphere in which prospective members sought to impress the organization to win a tap. “I am deeply disturbed by initial reports of heavy drinking by underage students in a context that could be construed as hazing,” said a Yale spokeswoman, who urged students to come forward with complaints. "I assure you that Yale has no tolerance for sexual intimidation or assault.” (This isn't the first Yale scandal of the school year...)
