Gabrielle Giffords' hands are clasped, and she's listening to two of her constituents at a "Congress on Your Corner" event, just moments before a gunman walked up and opened fire. Giffords' office released the image—the only one it's released of that day—yesterday via Facebook, reports the AP, prompting comments like, "What a haunting picture" and "It is just so sad to know what is about to happen ..."
Giffords is talking with Jim and Doris Tucker in the photo; Jim Tucker was injured in the shooting, but survived. "The way it worked was people had the chance to speak to the congresswoman one-on-one about any topic, and that's what was going on when that photo was taken," says a Giffords spokesman. The photo was released as Jared Loughner faced additional charges yesterday; Giffords is using music to aid in her rapidly progressing recovery. (More Gabrielle Giffords stories.)
