Japanese Wonder Dog Survives Tsunami, High Seas

Get Disney on the line. While conducting last-ditch search and rescue efforts off the northern coast of Japan, the coast guard discovered what might be the world's most resilient dog, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. Rescuers spotted him atop the floating debris of a house that had washed away, and they think he'd been afloat since the earthquake and tsunami struck three weeks ago.

After he was spotted by a television crew, helicoptering coast guard troops were unable to draw him out from his intermittent refuge under the sinking home's roof. At last, a coast guard boat plucked him to safety. The rescue was a welcome success story in an increasingly hopeless expedition by Japanese and US military to identify bodies and save any remaining survivors.
