On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart summed up the continuing budget crisis thusly: "So Democrats want $30 billion in cuts, Republicans want $60 billion in cuts. Rather than both sides going, well, how about $45 (billion), we're going to shut the government down." And, true to form, Stewart's not happy with either side's name-calling tactics—but he holds a special disdain for Rep. Eric Cantor's Prevention of Government Shutdown Act, which basically says, in Stewart's words, that "if the Senate doesn't vote on it, the House budget becomes law."
"That is a terrible idea. Here's how terrible it is," Stewart continued. "Republican Louie Gohmert, a man who believes Muslim women sneak into this country to have terror babies and that Obama may have bombed Libya to deplete our army so that he can activate a secret shadow militia of Obamacare doctors" believes the bill violates the constitution. "So Cantor's extra-constitutional plan gave Gohmert a chance to be sane, and Democrats a chance to be dicks," he said, before cutting to a variety of clips showing Democrats using Schoolhouse Rock and children's books to remind the GOP how a bill actually becomes a law.
