McDonald's New Flavor: Mirepoix

Say bonjour to a whole new McDonald's chicken sandwich. The fast food giant is ditching its Italian-flavored chicken breast in favor of a French-flavored one in its grilled chicken sandwiches, reports the Christian Science Monitor. Made-in-the-US purists shouldn't start moaning sacré bleu, however: The move is part of a bid to embrace a "more neutral flavor profile." The new seasoning, mirepoix, is made from salt, pepper, onions, carrots, and celery, with perhaps a bit of garlic and herb tossed in, says McDonald’s menu director.

And the chicken-related changes don't stop there. Coming soon to a drive-thru near you:

• New buns for the chicken sandwiches that are rounder and have whole grains and cracked wheat
• The mirepoix-flavored chicken will now top the Asian salad
• “More buttermilk flavor” in the ranch dressing
• A Thai-inspired McNuggets dipping sauce: hot buffalo and sweet chili
