Stuart Smalley was nowhere in sight yesterday as Al Franken shredded a Defense of Marriage Act supporter. Seems the gentleman from Minnesota took offense with Focus on the Family's Thomas Minnery and his citation of a federal study that found children in opposite-sex married families fared way better than kids in any other situation. “I actually checked” out the study, Franken said, and it refers to “nuclear families,” not “opposite-sex married families," TPM reports.
"I would think that nuclear” in this case meant “headed by a husband and wife,” Minnery replied. "It doesn't," Franken shot back, drawing laughs. Franken's final smack: “I frankly don't really know how we can trust the rest of your testimony if you are reading studies these ways." (More Al Franken stories.)
