One person who is not a fan of the US intervention in Libya: Fidel Castro. The former Cuban leader spoke out against President Obama's address to the UN in an opinion column published on a Cuban government website today, calling it "gibberish" and referring to NATO’s actions in Libya as "genocide" and a "monstrous crime." Castro had not written one of his so-called "reflections" since early July, prompting rumors of declining health, but in today’s piece he was back to form, blasting what he calls the US' hypocritical behavior.
Castro referred to Obama as the "yankee president" and accused him of misrepresenting the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, the US' Israel and Palestine policy, and the Arab Spring uprisings, Reuters reports. “Who understands this gibberish of the President of the United States in front of the General Assembly?” he wrote. “What position to adopt about the genocide of NATO in Libya? Does anyone wish it recorded that under their direction, the government of their country supported the monstrous crimes by the United States and its NATO allies?” (More Libya stories.)
