Two longtime critics of Facebook on Capitol Hill want the FTC to investigate the company over new privacy allegations, reports Politico. Democrat Ed Markey and Republican Joe Barton sent their letter after an Australian blogger reported that Facebook keeps collecting data on users even after they are logged out. Gawker has an explainer on the cookie-tracking.
Facebook tells Politico that nothing nefarious was going on and that it took steps to correct the problem once the blogger raised it. “There was no security or privacy breach—Facebook did not store or use any information it should not have,” says a spokesman. “Even though we weren't using this information, it's important to us that we address even potential issues, and we appreciate the issue was brought to our attention."
