Don Imus was broadcasting again this morning, eight months after being fired for calling the Rutgers women’s basketball team you-know-whats. His new cast sports two black comedians, and while Imus promised not to joke about racism, other than that “not much has changed,” he said. “Dick Cheney is still a war criminal, Hillary Clinton is still Satan, and I'm back on the radio.” The guest roster included Imus vets John McCain and Chris Dodd.
Imus said he’d offer no “lame excuses” for his infamous slur, calling it “an essentially reprehensible remark about innocent people who did not deserve to be made fun of.” He apologized again to the team, promising not to err again and noting that they were more forgiving than many others. “We signed for five years,” he said of his contracts with Citadel Radio. “That’s how long it’s going to take to get even with everybody.” (More Don Imus stories.)
