George Will's Sunday column in the Washington Post isn't out yet, but Politico's Playbook has an early snippet that makes clear it won't be welcome reading in the Mitt Romney household. He calls Romney a "recidivist reviser of his principles who is not only becoming less electable, he might damage GOP chances of capturing the Senate." After comparing him to the "technocratic" (and Democratic) Michael Dukakis, Will asks, "Has conservatism come so far, surmounting so many obstacles, to settle, at a moment of economic crisis, for THIS?"
Given Will's position among conservatives, this doesn't bode well for Romney, notes Alexander Burns at Politico. Many on the right think the party can do better, but "Will may be the most important establishment voice to come out and say so directly." Jonathan Chait at Daily Intel has more on conservatives' lukewarm embrace of the candidate. (More Mitt Romney stories.)
