Cain: I Never Changed My Story

When Herman Cain appeared on Fox News last night his fellow conservatives didn't go easy on him. Asked why his account had apparently changed after sexual harassment allegations first surfaced, the candidate denied modifying his story, AP reports. When "I first heard the word ‘settlement,’ I thought ‘legal settlement,'" he said. “My recollection later is that there was an agreement."

One of his interviewers, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer, told Cain that his fussing over the difference between the words settlement and agreement sounded distinctly "Clintonian," the New York Times notes. "It wasn’t intended to be Clintonian," Cain insisted. I "was simply using the word 'agreement.'" Cain said he is under attack because he is an unconventional target and his race could also be a factor, "but we don't have any evidence to support it." (More Herman Cain 2012 stories.)
